Your dashboard is a good alternative in this case, although you can also find another spot in your car that works for you.
Private vs Commercial Vehicles
All privately owned vehicles are allowed to install radar detectors in Connecticut, as are commercial vehicles as long as they weigh under 18,000 lbs.
Commercial vehicles that weigh more than that aren’t permitted to use radar detectors.
Driving Near a Military Area

Note that police might also make use of LiDAR detectors that rely on light detection and range to send laser signals.
